Today we had the privilege of meeting Sr. Consilio. She is an inspiration in how to live. She is about eighty six years old and has never seen the badness in people. She believes in looking at the goodness in others. I was meant to be looking at the goodness in myself yet all I could do was look at how I can improve myself. I could be less judgemental for one, for a long time I thought I was better than a heroin addict when I was in addiction. Now I can see we are both just covering up our pain. I begrudge people too, I’ve often been annoyed at the speed others were housed. I can see now that I was addicted to deflecting from myself. Positive things I could list about myself include; I can listen, I have empathy and I’m good at problem solving. I aspire to someday to be more selfless and to be able to see the goodness in others like Sr. Consilio can. I also hope to stop comparing myself to others. Everyone in the world has their own unique qualities.
In work therapy today the potato saga returned. It has been decided by the captain of the ship that is CM Athy, that the potatoes will be peeled and mashed from now on. It took four of us three hours to peel two buckets today. At first I found this frustrating. However, I broke the task down hourly, had gratitude for potatoes and considered how much it benefits everybody’s meal in the house. I now look forward to being the chief potato peeler, one potato at a time.
