Recovery is a learning process, I have lost count of the amount of times I tried to drink or gamble \u2018differently\u2019. One thing that stands out for me is hearing at a meeting all you have to do is keep coming back. Being in an environment with people experiencing similar emotions and experiences to you can be invaluable. A lot of my writing has come directly from the mouth of others at meetings. Listening is key too. That\u2019s why I will be taking a hiatus tomorrow and not speaking. I\u2019m there to listen for now. My story will come in time, now isn\u2019t the time. It&#8217;s a very early recovery for me. A few months ago I was at my Relapse Prevention Group and a man shared that \u2018yesterday&#8217;s shower won&#8217;t keep you clean today\u2019. It stuck with me for some reason, I have even posted about it in a previous post. That for me, was a golden nugget. Putting a camera in my apartment to relieve my anxiety was yet another golden nugget. We as addicts need all the help we can get and listening out for golden nuggets is crucial. They can stay with you forever. Meeting with others who believe their addiction is problematic is important. That\u2019s why they recommend ninety meetings in ninety days. Personally I\u2019ll be happy if I can achieve three meetings in a week. I also have the luxury of this journal, it gets my thoughts out of my head. By journaling I can be the chief miner. I can find golden nuggets inside my head that I didn\u2019t even respect enough in addiction to know they were there. If you find a golden nugget at a meeting or even from within don\u2019t be afraid to write it down, a time for reflection will come and it will be there in black and white.
